How to get Preeti text into Word

  1. Paste Unicode Nepali into the left box, or type it first in the Nepali typing editor.
  2. Press Copy under the right box. The result looks like English letters - that is expected.
  3. Paste it into Word, select it and choose Preeti from the font list.

The converter places the short i (ि) before its consonant and the reph (र्) after its syllable, the way Preeti expects, and uses Preeti's own shapes for conjuncts such as क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ and द्य.

Unicode to Preeti: common questions

Why does the converted text look like English letters?

That is what Preeti text is: English characters that the Preeti font draws as Nepali letters. Paste the result into Word or another app and set the font to Preeti, and it shows as Nepali.

When do I need Preeti instead of Unicode?

Only when someone requires it: an office, printer or form that still works in Preeti, or a document that is already in Preeti. For everything else - Facebook, email, websites, Google Docs - keep Unicode, which works everywhere without a special font.

Do I need the Preeti font installed?

Yes, on the computer where the text will be read or printed. Preeti is usually already installed on office computers in Nepal that use it.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so the text never leaves your device. It is free with no sign-up and no limit on length.
