Why convert Kruti Dev to Unicode?

Kruti Dev is a font trick: the document stores English letters and the font paints Hindi over them. That works only on a computer with Kruti Dev installed and only inside documents set in that font. Send the text anywhere else and it turns into strings likeHkkjr ,d fo'kky ns'k gSA.

Unicode stores the actual Hindi letters, so the same text works in WhatsApp, Gmail, Google Docs, on websites and on phones, can be searched, and displays in any Hindi font.

Kruti Dev to Unicode: common questions

What is Kruti Dev?

Kruti Dev (most often Kruti Dev 010) is an older Hindi font that draws Devanagari letters in place of English ones. The file actually stores English characters such as "Hkkjr", and only the Kruti Dev font makes them look like भारत. Unicode Hindi stores the real Hindi letters instead.

Why does my Hindi text turn into English letters when I copy it?

Because it was typed in Kruti Dev. Outside a document that uses the Kruti Dev font - in WhatsApp, an email, a website or another font - you see the underlying English characters. Converting it to Unicode fixes this permanently.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so the text never leaves your device. It is free with no sign-up and no limit on length.

Which Kruti Dev versions does it support?

It is built for Kruti Dev 010, the version almost everyone uses. Other Kruti Dev fonts mostly follow the same keyboard layout, but check the first sentence of the result before converting a long document.

How do I use the converted text in Microsoft Word?

Paste it into Word and select a Unicode Hindi font such as Mangal, Nirmala UI or any font from our free Hindi fonts page. Do not keep the Kruti Dev font on Unicode text, or it will look broken.
