How the Telugu typing test works
- Choose a passage and a time from one to ten minutes.
- Click the box under the passage and start typing. The clock starts with your first key.
- The word you are on is highlighted. Keep going until the time is up or the passage is done, or press Finish now.
- See your net and gross speed, accuracy, and the passage with every wrong, missed and extra word marked.
Typing Telugu with InScript
InScript is the government-standard keyboard for Indian scripts. Vowel signs sit on the left of the keyboard and consonants on the right, and each key types the same sound in every Indian script. Open the InScript key chart under the test to see where each Telugu script letter is.
New to the letters themselves? The Telugu alphabet chart shows every letter with its English sound. To write Telugu without learning a keyboard, the Telugu typing editor turns English spelling into Telugu script as you type.
How your result is scored
Typing exams measure speed in keystrokes: five key presses, spaces included, make one word. So gross speed is keystrokes divided by five, per minute, and only the keys still in your text count.
Every wrong, missed and extra word is one mistake, and net speed takes one word per minute off the gross speed for each. Your typing is lined up with the passage word by word, so one skipped word is one mistake rather than throwing off every word after it. Exams differ in the details, so check your exam's notice for its exact rules.
Telugu Typing Test: common questions
Which keyboard does the Telugu typing test use?
InScript, the standard keyboard for every Indian script, which government Telugu typing tests use. Its keys sit in the same places for all Indian languages, so what you learn here carries over.
Do I need a Telugu keyboard installed?
No. Type on your normal English keyboard: the test turns your keys into Telugu script as you type. If your computer already has a Telugu InScript keyboard switched on, you can type with it as usual.
How is the speed calculated?
Five keystrokes, including spaces, count as one word. Gross speed is your keystrokes divided by five, per minute. Net speed takes one word per minute off for every mistake: each wrong, missed or extra word is one mistake.
How is accuracy calculated?
Accuracy is the share of words you got right among all the words compared: right, wrong, missed and extra. Skipping a word or adding one costs only that one word, not every word after it.
Can I use backspace?
Yes, backspace removes your last keystroke, and Ctrl+Backspace (Option+Backspace on a Mac) removes the last word. Keys you delete do not count towards your speed. Pasting is blocked, as in a real test.
Is my typing saved or sent anywhere?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser and your text never leaves your device. It is free with no sign-up and no limit on attempts.
