The growth of digital payments has changed the way people in India buy and sell goods. A few years ago, most small shops accepted only cash, and customers often had to search for change. Today, even a tea seller at a railway station displays a code that can be scanned with a mobile phone. Payments reach the seller within seconds, and both sides receive a record of the transaction. This has helped small businesses keep better accounts and apply for loans from banks. However, the new system also brings new risks. Fraudsters send false messages, pretend to be bank officials and ask people to share their personal codes. Citizens must remember that no genuine bank will ever ask for a password over the phone. With awareness and care, digital payments can make daily life simpler, safer and more transparent for everyone.

How the English typing test works

  1. Choose a passage and a time from one to ten minutes.
  2. Click the box under the passage and start typing. The clock starts with your first key.
  3. The word you are on is highlighted. Keep going until the time is up or the passage is done, or press Finish now.
  4. See your net and gross speed, accuracy, and the passage with every wrong, missed and extra word marked.

How your result is scored

Typing exams measure speed in key depressions: five key presses, spaces included, make one word. So gross speed is keystrokes divided by five, per minute, and only the keys still in your text count.

Every wrong, missed and extra word is one mistake, and net speed takes one word per minute off the gross speed for each. Your typing is lined up with the passage word by word, so one skipped word is one mistake rather than throwing off every word after it.

English Typing Test: common questions

How is typing speed calculated?

Five keystrokes, including spaces, count as one word. Gross speed is your keystrokes divided by five, per minute. Net speed takes one word per minute off for every mistake: each wrong, missed or extra word is one mistake, and a word with only a capital letter or punctuation slip is half a mistake.

What typing speed do government exams need?

It depends on the exam and post. For example, SSC CHSL asks for 35 words per minute in English for LDC and JSA posts, and SSC's data entry tests ask for 8,000 key depressions per hour. Always check the official notice for your exam, as rules change.

Do capital letters and punctuation count?

Yes. A word with a wrong capital letter or a missing comma is counted as wrong, because exams compare your text with the passage exactly. Type exactly what you see.

Can I use backspace?

Yes, backspace removes your last keystroke, and Ctrl+Backspace (Option+Backspace on a Mac) removes the last word. Keys you delete do not count towards your speed. Pasting is blocked, as in a real test.

Is my typing saved or sent anywhere?

No. The test runs entirely in your browser and your text never leaves your device. It is free with no sign-up and no limit on attempts.
