How to type in Gurroman
Gurroman is a legacy (non-Unicode) font. Instead of using the standard Unicode code points for Gurmukhi script, it draws Punjabi letters in place of English ones: typing a plain English letter shows a Punjabi letter. That is why the preview above shows letters it can draw rather than your own text.
Text from our online editor is Unicode, so it will look like jumbled English if you switch it to Gurroman. Use Gurroman to open or edit older documents that were typed in it, or when a print shop or form asks for it by name. For anything new, a Unicode font such as Anek Gurmukhi works everywhere, including phones and websites.

Gurroman font: common questions
Is the Gurroman font free to use?
It is free to download here. The font file does not state a licence, so for commercial work such as a book cover, logo or paid app, check with its original publisher first.
Is Gurroman a Unicode font?
No. Gurroman is a legacy font: it draws Punjabi letters in place of English characters instead of using Unicode. Unicode Punjabi text, such as text from our editor, will not display in it. Use it only for documents that were typed in Gurroman's own keyboard layout.
What is Gurroman called in Word and other apps?
After installing it, look for "GurbaniRomanizing" in the font menu of Word, LibreOffice, Photoshop or any other app that uses your computer's fonts. Web apps such as Google Docs cannot see fonts installed on your computer. That is the name stored inside the font file, and it can differ slightly from the name on this page.
How do I install Gurroman?
Download the TrueType file from this page. On Windows, right-click it and choose "Install". On a Mac, double-click it and click "Install Font" in Font Book. Restart any app that was already open and Gurroman will appear in its font list.
